At its meeting, Tuesday
morning, August 12, the Board of
Commissioners for the Mount Vernon Housing
Authority received the news of a perfect
audit with no incidents cited and only a few
suggestions for improvement. Executive
Director of Cloverleaf, Terri Austin, gave
all the credit to her staff for the report
from Pam Simpson, CPA.
"I want to thank my staff
for a job well done," Austin said. "It’s no
small matter to have an audit with no
incidents."
The independent audit
covers all financial aspects of the Housing
Authority, including Section 8, payroll,
accounts payable and capital funds, the
grant received every year for building
renovations.
Austin also announced
that once again this year, the Housing
Authority will host a landlords’ luncheon to
distribute information about the Section 8
program, including inspection and
eligibility requirements. Last year’s
program drew around 50 landlords. The date
of this year’s luncheon has been set for
Friday, October 10, at Cloverleaf.
In other business:

the Board accepted the low bid from
Evansville’s Pavement Sealing Co. to seal
and stripe the parking lot at Cloverleaf
before winter sets in.
• The entire Board voted
to award low bidder Jeremy Bolte with the
job of painting all the handrails on the
balconies at Cloverleaf and the outer walls
of approximately 10 apartment units.
• The Board is inviting
three agencies to set up a flu and pneumonia
shot clinic at Cloverleaf: Specialty Home
Health, the Visiting Nurse Association, and
the Mount Vernon Public Health Office.
• At the recommendation
of Board President Andy Weintraut and

entry system in addition to the key system
now in use at Cloverleaf.
• In Section 8 news, it
was reported that Housing Assistance
Payments, or rent assistance payments,
totaled $71,602 for the month of August.
Twenty new potential Section 8 families have
been called in for appointments.
• Austin reported that
the carpeting project is almost completed.
New Federal Housing Authority-approved

completed under budget by $10,000.
• The Board will be
considering information about new software
used by other housing authorities for
accounts payable, payroll and Section 8
records in an effort to replace the outdated
software now in use.
