Preschool Storytimes are also being held on Mondays and Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. These sessions include stories, music, activities, and crafts for children ages 3 to5 years. Parents are welcome, but not required to attend. Registration is requred.

The Laughs and Crafts Club is offered each Thursday at 3:45 a.m. This is a special club for kids who are in kindergarten through fifth grade. Come to the meetings and enjoy stories, games, activities, and crafts. Registration required.

LITerally Speaking Book Discussion group will be meeting Tuesday, August 19 at 1:00 p.m. This month, group will discuss The Jane Austen Book Club by Karen Joy Fowler.

In her portrait of a California reading group, Karen Joy Fowler turns a mirror on the gawking, voyeuristic presence that lurks in every story: the reader. What results is Fowler’s shrewdest, funniest fiction yet, a novel about how we engage with a novel. You don’t have to be a student of Jane Austen to enjoy it, either.

If you are unable to visit the library due to illness or disability, the library can come to you. This temporary--or permanent--service is available to any person residing in Black, Point, Robinson, Marrs or Lynn townships. We can deliver to your door, at no cost to you, the following types of items: books (regular and large print); audio books (CD/cassette); music CDs; and magazines. We will arrange a regular delivery/pickup schedule, either monthly or bi-monthly. For additional information call Bookmobile Services at 431-8528.

The library provides meeting rooms free of charge to non-profit groups for library-related, civic, cultural, and educational meetings and programs. Businesses and individuals may rent rooms for a fee. The fact that a group is permitted to meet at the library does not in any way constitute an endorsement of the group’s policies and beliefs by the library.

Meeting room reservations are now being taken for the months of August, September, October and November. To make inquiries regarding the meeting rooms or to reserve a room call Stan Campbell at 838-3286.

The Friends of the Alexandrian Public Library fall book sale will be held Saturday, November 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, November 9 from 12 to 4 p.m. in the library meeting rooms. A special Friends-only preview sale will precede the public sale on Friday, November 7 from 2 to 7 p.m.

We are now accepting donations for the fall book sale. We will gladly take donations of books, CDs, DVDs, video tapes, graphic novels, computer programs, working computers, audio tapes, textbooks and the only magazine accepted is the National Geographic. All items must be clean, dry, mold-free, and have original covers. Some books such as craft books, graphic novels (comic books), cookbooks, and do-it-yourself books we have discovered sell very well.

If you have any questions concerning items you intend donating please call Stan Campbell at 838-3286.

Alexandrian Public Library offers access to a high-speed Internet connection to anyone with a wireless-enabled laptop computer (or PDA).
