Carolyn Sue Funkhouser of Mount Vernon, Indiana passed away on October 23, 2014 at the age of seventy-four. She was born June 19, 1940 in Zeigler, Illinois to Lela M. ‘Susie’ and Melvin ‘Peck’ Carpenter.
Carolyn graduated from Zeigler-Royalton High School. She and Bud moved to Mount Vernon, Indiana shortly after high school and started a family. She was an entrepreneur who owned several businesses during her lifetime including a nursery, shoe store, consignment shop and fitness center in Mount Vernon, Indiana. She later became a successful real estate agent and bank loan officer. She also worked with Bud in the family business. Carolyn was retired at the time of her death.
Carolyn was a generous, kind-hearted woman, and a wonderful mother and grandmother who loved her family dearly. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Carolyn was preceded in death by both of her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Dempsey ‘Bud’ Funkhouser; her three children, Mark Funkhouser, Teri Meinschein and Scott Funkhouser; her three grandchildren, Nicholas Funkhouser, Shane Duckworth and Michael Funkhouser; her brother, Donnie Carpenter and her sisters Vera Mills and Sherry Clark, all of Zeigler, Illinois.
Service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main Street, Mount Vernon with Rev. Matt Watson officiating and burial to follow in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 until 7 p.m., on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Posey County Relay for Life.
