James Roy Goerges, 74, Kokomo, died Sunday, October 12, 2014 at St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo. He was born the son of Roy B. and Geraldine (McCleary) Goerges on September 22, 1940 in Elberfeld Indiana. On January 20, 1962 he married Carolyn ‘Jane’ Stephan who survives.
A 1958 Griffin High School graduate, James went on to receive a Bachelor’s degree from Oakland City College, an Associate of Science degree from Indiana University and graduated from the FBI Academy’s 111th Session. He retired from the Indiana State Police Department, Peru Post, in 1992 after 29 years of service as the District Commander Lt. James was a member of Lynville Lodge 396 F&AM, Valley of Evansville Scottish Rite, National Rifle Association, Izaak Walton League, Ducks Unlimited, Salem United Church of Christ in Evansville and the Pioneers of Indiana State Police.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Jane Goerges; son, Kurt (Stacy) Goerges; granddaughters, Mickayla and Taylor Goerges; sisters, Barbara Phillips and Kathy (Mike) Douglas along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
James was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son and infant daughter.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at 4 p.m. at Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1315 West Lincoln Road, Kokomo with John Murdock officiating. Friends visited with the family from 2 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
