Manford Lee Allyn, 81, of Mount Vernon, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2014 at his residence in Mount Vernon. He was born October 2, 1932 in Posey County, Ind., to Jay and Minnie (Jenkins) Allyn.
Lee graduated from Mount Vernon High School with the class of 1950. He barbered for 57 years in Mount Vernon and belonged to the USI Varsity Club for 39 years. He was a basketball season ticket holder for 39 years. Lee was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 5, member of First Christian Church for 57 years, and was a Deacon for 30 plus years. He was married to Imogene (Hall) Allyn for 38 years before death.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law, Donna (Dick) Allyn.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Bessie Denning Allyn; sons, Dr. Steven L. (Jody) Allyn of Selma, Ala., and Kevin E. Allyn of Evansville, Ind.; daughter, Dana L. Allyn (Esther) of Mount Vernon, Ind.; step children, Mike Denning, Phillip Denning, Ted Denning, Bernita ‘Cookie’ Bradford all of Mount Vernon, Ind.; brothers, Gerry (Nola) Allyn of Mount Vernon and Dennis (Wendy) Allyn of Evansville, Ind.; sister, Sue Douglas of Atascadero, Calif.; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main Street in Mount Vernon with Rev. John Hilbert and Rev. Nathanial Denning officiating and burial to follow in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
Visitation was from 3 until 7 p.m. on Monday, September 1, 2014 at the funeral home.
