Wallace Smith

Wallace Tenderson Smith, 96, of Mount Vernon passed away July 2, 2014 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. He was born January 16, 1918 in Massac County, Ill., to Lewis Wilburn and Elinor M. (Wallace) Smith.
Wallace served in the US Army during WWII. He was a school teacher at Marrs Elementary and had been a principle at West Elementary School.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary (Triplett) Smith; and brother, Lewis Smith.
He is survived by his sons, Wallace (Sharon) Smith of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Gregory Smith of Sunnyvale, Ca.,; three grandchildren, Ginevra Stringfield, Jeremy Smith, and Justin Smith; three nephews and a dear friend Vera Dickey.
Funeral service were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main Street, Mount Vernon, Ind., with Rev. Fred Haywood officiating and burial to follow in Lower Salem Cemetery near Joppa, Ill.
Visitation was from 9 until 11 a.m., service time at the funeral home.
