Karey Elpers

Karey (Schucker) Elpers, 38, passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at her home in Indianapolis surrounded by loving friends and family. Karey was born on October 20, 1975 in Evansville, Indiana to Ronald and Karen (Schucker) Smith. She was a 1994 graduate of North Posey High School and graduated from Purdue University in 2000 with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. She worked as a pharmacist for Clarian Health in Indianapolis for many years.
Karey married her high school sweetheart, John Elpers, on May 6, 2000. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother and a constant source of inspiration to her family, co-workers and friends during her long battle with breast cancer. The memory of her courage, sense of humor and determination to live life to the fullest will be a lasting gift to those who loved her.
Karey is survived by her husband of 14 years, John Elpers; her daughters, Anna and Elise Elpers; her devoted mother, Karen Smith of Wadesville, Ind., who cared for her during the final stages of her illness; step-father Thomas Smith; father, Ronald Schucker of Arizona; sister, Georgettea Schucker of Haubstadt, Ind.; brother, Mike (Terri) Smith of Owensville, Ind.; grandparents, Norma and Richard Hines of Newburgh, Ind.; sister-in-law, Jackie (Dave) Durchholz of Wadesville, Ind.; and nieces and nephews, including Kristen, Kaylee and Megan Durchholz with whom she shared a special closeness.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 1 p.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church, 5353 South McFarland Road, Indianapolis, IN 46227 with the Reverend Steve Banet officiating. Visitation for friends and family was on Saturday from 11 a.m. until service time at the church. A burial service was held on Monday, June 30 at 12 noon at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum, 2500 Mesker Park Drive, Evansville, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Karey Elpers Memorial Scholarship Fund at any Old National Bank to be used for students in need of tuition assistance at St. Jude or Roncalli Catholic Schools. Online condolences may be shared with the family at orileyfuneralhome.com.
