Marion Schutz, Jr.

Marion L. Schutz, Jr., 89, of New Harmony, Ind., born May 13, 1925, to Marion L. and Emma Lela ‘Kern’ Schutz, Sr., died June 19, 2014, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
Marion graduated from New Harmony High School in 1943. He was a WWII veteran and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7576 of Wadesville and American Legion Post 370 in New Harmony, Arctic Masonic Lodge 394 of New Harmony, Johnson United Methodist Church of New Harmony and the Coterie Club.
He was a farmer, carpenter and retired from General Electric in Mount Vernon, Ind. He wintered in Naples, Fla., for 21 years and taught dance classes for 50 years.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Frances M. ‘Pritchett’ Schutz of New Harmony, a daughter, Christine (Steve) Johnson of Mount Vernon, Ind., three sons, Richard (Patty) Schutz of Evansville, Randy (Judy) Schutz of New Harmony and John (Cindy) Schutz of Newburgh, two sisters, Lillian (Charles) Stevens of Carmel, Ind., and Margie Cobb of Ordway, Colo., a brother Eddie Schutz of New Harmony, a sister-in-law, Jackie Schutz of New Harmony, eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marion was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Bill Schutz and two sisters, Ruth Wilson and Vera Carey.
Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2014, at Johnson United Methodist Church in New Harmony, with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery. Officiating was the Rev. John Adams and military rites were by American Legion Post 370 and VFW Post 7576.
Friends called Sunday, June 22, 2014, at Werry Funeral Home in New Harmony from 2 until 8 p.m. and Monday, June 23, 2014, at the church 9 a.m. until service time.
