Lucille Margaret (Berendes) Tomes, age 90, of Evansville, passed away Friday, May 23, 2014 at Pine Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Tomes was a member of St. Philip Catholic Church. She had worked for Shane Manufacturing and Fendrich Cigar Company. She enjoyed quilting and playing cards, but most important to her were her Catholic faith and her family.
Surviving Lucille are two sons, Jim (Margie) Tomes of Wadesville and Mark (Jacie) Tomes, of Evansville; five grandchildren, Cheryl Graves, Lori Tomes, Nick Tomes, Joan Williams and Jenny Sidebottom and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond Tomes in 1982; her parents, Andrew and Anna (Hauke) Berendes and by two brothers, Louis and Sylvester Berendes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at St. Philip Catholic Church, with the Rev. Claude Burns officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Friends visited with the family from 2 until 8 p.m. on Monday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 9 a.m. until the service time on Tuesday at St. Philip Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to St. Philip Catholic Church, 3500 South St. Philip Road, Mount Vernon, IN 47620.
The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice and Pine Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center Stocker 1 unit for their compassionate care of Lucille.
