Emma Sarah Henrietta (Droege) Reese, 88, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Pine Haven Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was born September 30, 1925, near Wadesville, to the late Mary E. (Meier) and Walter F. Droege.
She enjoyed visits from family and friends, playing bingo, speaking German to the caretakers and took pleasure in reciting her confirmation memory verse from 1938 ‘Draw nigh to God and he will draw nigh to you,’ James 4: 8, given to her by Rev Hillenbrand. She was a life time member of Zion (Lippe) United Church of Christ. Emma devoted her life to farming and gardening, first with her parents, and then later alongside her husband, Sylvester, whom she married on June 12, 1948.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sylvester W. Reese, in 1974; brother, Walter A. Droege; and son, Paul E. Reese.
She is survived by her sons, Raymond W. (Trudy) Reese of Peru, Ind., and David E. (Mary Beth) Reese of Mount Vernon; grandsons, Nelson (Karen) of Peru, Ind., Clinton of Indianapolis, Brandon of Fitchburg, Wis., and Bryan of Mount Vernon; and granddaughter, Samantha of Mount Vernon.
The family wishes to thank the Pine Haven Health & Rehabilitation family for all the loving care they gave Emma throughout her ten year stay and most recently Heritage Hospice; Dr. Gordon Vogel and Dr. William Sutton for their medical expertise; and Rev. Kenneth Scherry, Rev. Jay Warren and Rev. Linda Nanninga for their communion visits and prayer sessions.
Services were 10 a.m., Monday, May 12, 2014, at Zion-Lippe United Church of Christ, Mount Vernon, officiated by Rev. Al Schmitz and Rev. Linda Nanninga, with burial in Zion-Lippe UCC Cemetery. Friends visited Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Alexander West Chapel and Monday from 9 a.m. until service time at the church.
